Bands Together: Unique Project Provides Valued Migration Information

Two seasons in, the group has banded about 1,000 ducks, and the information gleaned from harvested ducks in coming years will provide valuable insight into migration patterns. The bands are U.S. Fish and Wildlife bands, and the project is one of several privately funded banding programs around the country. Maxwell said he is not aware of another such project in Arkansas.

In November, Watts opened Waterfowl Solutions and Machining Inc. of Cabot, which makes duck and goose calls for companies. The companies then sell the calls under their brand names to retailers and wholesalers. Watts declined to release revenue figures, but since launching the business, Watts has vacuumed up orders, starting with about 500-600 in November to 3,000 by early July.
