Duck call? Do not know the name. Bought it at Cabela’s Bargain Basement 10 years ago.

Fields, reservoir or timber? Most recently field hunting.

Rainy, nasty or bluebird sky? Prefer low ceiling and dry (I am not as mad at them as when I was younger).

Favorite hunting story/memory? Grew up in Helena and my father would leave me at the duck camp off of Big Creek for 2-3 days during Christmas vacation. My mother noted on my return my face and hands were the only clean parts of my body.

What got you into hunting? I fell in love with duck hunting from the time my father used to carry me on his shoulders into the Scatters to hunt.

If you have children do you take them duck hunting? If so what are some of the highlights from these youth hunts? My greatest joy is taking my grandson on a duck hunt.

My favorite story is that during a youth hunt I had 7-8 children down for the hunt. I had contacted Duck Commander and they had sent a box of duck calls which I gave out to the children. These were all boys except one little girl. The boys were making an awful racket with their calls. I asked the little girl to join in on the duck calling. She did. She is my niece Shelby Free who has now won several World Titles. The boys never blew their duck calls again.

What is your most unusual “must have” in the duck blind? Thickest dark coffee made by man.

Please include your favorite duck recipe if you have one. My wife and I won the first World’s Duck Gumbo contest. If I tell you the recipe I would have to kill you.

If you included a recipe, what makes it especially delicious, in your opinion? It takes about 24 hours from start to finish to cook our duck gumbo. My wife will make 3-4 rouxs over several hours to put in the gumbo. Her roux is the outstanding ingredient.
