Number of days you hunt a season? Thirty to 35
Where do you hunt? Northeast Arkansas near Weiner
Club name? OK Hunting and Fishing Club Inc., founded in 1938 by my grandfather and some of his cronies. There have been four generations of the Butler Family as members.
What kind of gun do you use? Benelli Super Black Eagle 12 gauge
Favorite duck call? Dennison
Fields, reservoir or timber? Love the timber but I’ll hunt anywhere.
Rainy, nasty or bluebird sky? Yes. I can’t control Mother Nature.
Favorite hunting story/memory? I was hunting with my nephews on their farm outside Stuttgart one morning and we had a great hunt. After a lot of shooting, we were down to one shotgun shell in our blind and it was in my gun. Needless to say, they applied a little pressure on me not to miss on the last shot, which would have given us an even, 20-duck harvest for the hunt. So, in comes a lone bird and thankfully I dropped it. My nephew’s lab immediately went for the retrieve. Well, upon his return and to much surprise and dismay, it was a banded pintail. They were beside themselves. There was no argument as to who got the band.
What got you into hunting? My father and older brothers were big hunters and it wasn’t hard to get me hooked.
Where is your go-to spot for breakfast/meals on a hunting weekend? Our camp headquarters has a lot of cabins owned by the members. Not much need to stray afar; some really good cooks there.
Which Arkansas executive calls ducks the best? My late dear friend David Dunn from Forrest City was very good. Usually everyone else dropped their calls when he started blowing.
