Favorite hunting story/memory? Best duck hunt ever was with Phillip Jett and his father. We shot three limits of mallards in about two minutes, then sat in the blind and watched several hundred try to land on top of each other. The best goose hunt was with Brent and Fuller Birch. Brent is a world-class specklebelly hunter and we had about 5,000 come in and land on top of us. My favorite memory is taking my dad, who was suffering from Alzheimer’s, and all of my kids on his last duck hunt. It was so great to be with him to enjoy the early morning, and my kids were so excited.

What got you into hunting? My grandfather, and my uncle were huge duck hunters and members of Hempstead County Hunting Club (Grassy). My grandfather passed away right before I was born. As a little kid I loved to look at all the old pictures of him and his friends hunting. The first time I got to go to Grassy with my uncle I knew that was what I wanted to do.

What is your most unusual “must have” in the duck blind? My “magic call.” it’s just an old, cheap plastic call that I pull out for the kids when there is no action. They believe that, if you blow it, ducks will come.

Where is your go-to spot for breakfast/meals on a hunting weekend? The Hurley House in Hazen

If you have children do you take them duck hunting? If so, what are some of the highlights from these youth hunts? I have two boys and a girl and they all hunt. The best memory is watching how excited they got the first time they killed a duck all on their own.

Which Arkansas executive calls ducks the best? Brent Birch
