What’s your go-to duck hunting story?
I was on a private land hunt in December 2023 — the classic “Inaugural Duck Hunt” with a friend. The tags were still on his waders, he fell down in the water three times during our walk in, harvested his first duck ever — a mallard drake — and was bit by the bug. He was excited during the entirety of the hunt and could not wait for the next opportunity.
What got you into duck hunting?
I have a natural passion for the outdoors, having grown up small game hunting and fishing with my father and pursuing the outdoors through Boy Scouts. My grandfather was an avid small game hunter, and my passion for hunting indeed comes from him.
What is your most unusual “must have” in the duck blind?
I always carry my grandfather’s ‘70s-’80s model P.S. Olt Coon Call, and occasionally one of his pocket knives, as a reminder of where I get my passion for the outdoors and my connection to him. I also pack my shotgun in a case that was given to me by a former work colleague upon the passing of his father.
What stage of the hunter are you?
Sportsman (Measures the total experience—appreciation of outdoors, the animal being hunted, the process, companionship of others and conservation.)
If you have children, do you take them duck hunting?
Not yet. My wife Brooke and I have a 2-year-old daughter and 8-month-old son, and each have their own personalized duck calls. Our daughter, Berkleigh, has the makings of a fine sportswoman, regularly quacks on her call throughout our home, and has already developed an appetite for ducks that I have prepared.
Why do you duck hunt?
I duck hunt for conservation and the pure passion and sport of pursuing waterfowl in search of that next bird. As an Arkansas native and student of history, I consider myself fortunate to have the opportunity to hunt on both public and private lands, with rich traditions, while others travel from all over the world to hunt here.
Which Arkansas executive calls ducks the best?
