Favorite duck call? Any RNT Short Barrel, but I still love my old Echo Double Reed too
Preferred wader: camo or solids? You can’t beat Natural Gear’s “Natural” camo waders. No bias of course.
What’s your go-to duck hunting story?
My dad had been recently diagnosed with cancer and had been in treatment all season. After his last round of chemo, he said he was up to going and we went out to one of our favorite holes. We were able to get our mallards, a couple of woodies and a band to boot. We lost Dad last year, and I’m so glad I have stories like that one, and many others to look back on and remember.
What got you into duck hunting?
Growing up in Arkansas, it was just kind of part of the culture. Me and my brother were ate up with it from a very young age and most of my friends growing up duck hunted, had the duck heads on their windshields and the duck call in the truck to practice anywhere we went. It’s just always been a big part of my life.
What is your most unusual “must have” in the duck blind?
Beef jerky and lots of it.
Favorite meal after a hunt?
My first choice is a loaded breakfast burrito.
What stage of the hunter are you?
Method (The process of hunting becomes the focus. May still want to limit out but places a higher priority on how it’s accomplished.)
Which Arkansas executive calls ducks the best?
Well, that’s a loaded question depending on who’s in the room, but I’ve got to say my Natural Gear partner and Head of Sales and Product Development John Adams is pretty tough to beat.
What’s your favorite memory of hunting with your children?
I have three boys and love to take them out. My oldest has made the jump to being a hunting buddy more than a student, and last year he and I went up to a hole that nobody usually hunts. I let him do it all — put out the decoys, call the shots, the works. We were able to get our mallard limits that morning and the pride in his face was as good as it gets.
Why do you duck hunt?
I enjoy so much more than the hunt. I love the off-season land preparation and planning. I love the fellowship and camaraderie that can only be found at the duck club. I love watching the weather and wind to determine what days and spots give you the best chances. And yes, I love the hunt and sharing that experience with others.
