Number of days you hunt a season? 35.

Where you hunt? Our family land in Northeast Arkansas.

Club name? Squareshooter Hunting Club.

Pump or semi-automatic? Benelli 3½ Super Black Eagle Semi-Automatic.

Duck call? Refuge Invictus.

Fields, reservoir, river or timber? Timber, without question. My friends will tell you that I refuse to hunt out of a pit; I have just had my ears rung too many times.

Rainy, nasty or bluebird sky? Bluebird with a 5 mph south wind.

Favorite hunting story/memory? I donate a hunt to the NEA Clinic Duck Classic every year. The first year, I took a group that hadn’t been hunting much. We got about 30 ducks in the hole and one of the guys started shooting as the ducks were coming out over his head. He missed the first two shots and then proceeded to pull the trigger the third time as the duck kept coming over him. After he fired that shot he kept falling over backwards and went completely under the water.

At this time I had already sent my dog to pick up one of the downed birds and as this guy was coming up out of the water my dog swam back over him and pushed him back down. I will have to say, though, he stuck it out and hunted until we finished our limit. He didn’t have a dry stitch on him.

What got you into duck hunting? My dad, Blue Riggan, took me with his best friend, David Pratt, when I was 11 years old. We limited out 10 guys in an hour in the timber and I have been hooked since.

If you have children, do you take them duck hunting? If so, what are some of the highlights from these youth hunts? There are very few days that my boys don’t hunt with me. However my daughter goes with us only one day a year. We always try to pick a good day for all of us to be together. The last few years we have been able to limit everyone out on that day. As a dad, it’s pretty special to have them all together for a hunt like that.

What is your most unusual “must have” in the duck blind? Probably parachute cord and nails. We put a piece on our vent rib to hang our guns on the trees.

Which Arkansas executive calls ducks the best? Retired Rector School Superintendent Kelly Scobey is probably the best caller and hunter I have ever been around. Rob Watts of Refuge Calls hunts with me several times a year and is an excellent caller.
