Standard Sportsman hosts Cason Short and Brent Birch (also the editor of Greenhead) recently sat down with Dr. Doug Osborne to discuss the new Snowden Waterfowl Center of Excellence at the University of Arkansas – Monticello.

Announced in early October, the Snowden Waterfowl Center of Excellence is the state’s newest waterfowl research facility. Its mission is to support waterfowl and their habitats, while also cultivating the next generation of waterfowl professionals for the workforce through hands-on training. Osborne will serve as the inaugural Dyke–Snowden Endowed Chair of the program.

Osborne is a leading waterfowl researcher in Arkansas and nationally, leading the Osborne Lab at UAM, a student-focused waterfowl research facility with similar goals to the Snowden Center. He also serves as the Graduate Director for the Forest Agriculture and Research Center at Five Oaks (which we covered in the latest edition of Greenhead — read the story here).

The new center, funded by a private donation from local waterfowler David Snowden, and the Endowed Chair position, funded by donations from Snowden and Merritt Dyke, will provide educational opportunities to more students across Arkansas and beyond through scholarships and hands-on field training.

In this episode, Birch and Cason discuss the new Snowden Center and its significance to waterfowlers in Arkansas and around the country and the importance of continued research to improve waterfowl habitat and survival.
