In this week’s episode of The Standard Sportsman podcast, co-hosts Brent Birch and Cason Short talked to Reid Viegut, the Missouri Department of Conservation’s migratory bird coordinator.

Viegut is fresh off a research project at the University of Missouri, where he and other researchers used drones and machine learning to count waterfowl from the air. He shares with Birch and Short the different stages of the research project, the results he found and the future of this surveying technology.

The Standard Sportsman also launched a post-season survey for waterfowlers in the Central and Mississippi flyways. Read more about that here.
