In this week’s episode of The Standard Sportsman podcast, hosts Brent Birch and Cason Short talk about their Mississippi and Central Flyways survey. Launched on Feb. 12, the survey is an informal effort by Short and Birch to get midwestern hunters’ thoughts on recent duck hunting seasons.
“We hear a lot of opinions and comments, and we want to reach out further than that. Maybe it could shape the direction of this show a little bit,” Short said.”We want a better picture of what our audience, and anybody else, is thinking.”
The survey includes questions on how long one has been hunting, how often they hunt, where they hunt and what conditions are like in their areas. The survey is open to anyone in the Mississippi and Central flyways.
“There’s some concern out there about what’s going on with the sport, and that’s valid, and frankly, that’s a lot of what our show is about – trying to bring some of these topics to the forefront,” Birch said.
Short and Birch will discuss the survey results in a future episode. The survey closes on Feb. 28.
Survey respondents will be entered into a raffle for an opportunity to win a signed and numbered poster of the cover art of “The Grand Prairie: A History of Duck Hunting’s Hallowed Ground,” by Birch and contributors Jeff Churan, John Gordon and Dwain Hebda. Ten winners will be selected.
