It hasn’t been the best start to waterfowl season this year in Arkansas. Some relief was felt after storms passed through the state last week, but it wasn’t enough to elevate habitat conditions, apart from the ones artificially flooded.
The latest Weekly Waterfowl Report from the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission does note that hunters may want to bundle up more than usual in the weeks ahead:
With just more than three weeks left in the 2010-2011 season, extended forecasts call for small chances of rain this weekend into early next week, with colder temperatures and some precipitation possibly falling as ice, snow or a winter mix.
Field reports and surveys do say that the ducks are here in Arkansas – they’re just spending most of their time around the flooded areas. It will take more rain to spread the population around to the rest of the state.
