What’s your go-to duck hunting story? So many stories. Each hunt could be the next best story. Getting the call in late September 2023 offering the opportunity to buy a share in the historic Bull Sprig Inc. was unexpected to say the least. Then scrambling around to get that deal done just in time to share my inaugural opening weekend in the world class green timber of Bull Sprig with my dad and son was certainly an honor and a privilege the three generations of Hogan men won’t soon forget.
What got you into duck hunting? My Paw Paw Pete Burnett took us duck hunting on occasion on the Spicer farm outside of Stuttgart and once on the Tindall reservoir back in the mid-1980s which was quite the treat. However, scouting and hunting Bayou Meto and Hurricane WMA in the mid-to-late 1980s with my dad Mac Hogan and his buddy Jack Parker is what solidified my love of the sport.
What is your most unusual “must have” in the duck blind? You will always find in my blind bag a blue surgical hand towel and a little thermos of coffee.
What stage of the hunter are you? Sportsman (Measures the total experience — appreciation of outdoors, the animal being hunted, the process, companionship of others and conservation.)

What’s your favorite memory of hunting with your children? I have three 20-somethings. My two daughters, Harlyn and Revell, are good for a hunt or two per season. I cherish those opportunities to spend time with them in the Bull Sprig green timber. My son Liam is my everyday hunting buddy. If I am going, he and our 8-year-old labrador, Miss Millie, will be going as well. Liam and I share the same passion or “sickness” for the ducks.
Why do you duck hunt? Because everything about it is awesome, whether it be the social aspect or just experiencing the beauty of nature. The anticipation of what could be is what brings me back over and over again. There is something magical about a group of 20 or 30 mallards fluttering down through that Arkansas green timber or watching a pod of 20 teal buzzing around a field for a bit and then all of a sudden lighting in your decoy spread.
Which Arkansas executive calls ducks the best? The triumvirate of Jerrad Hicks, Jody Bray and Cooper Powell harmonizing together will coax about any duck in the area to finish into the hole, but I love listening to the caller my son Liam has become… He gets it done in fine fashion!
